Enrollment by Ethnicity: Black was most represented background in Sunflower County Consolidate School District schools in 2021-22 school year

Black students made up 84.6% of the 3,059 students enrolled in Sunflower County Consolidate School District schools during the 2021-22 school year, making them the most represented ethnicity, according to the Mississippi Department of Education.

This is a 14.2% decrease from the previous school year.

Gentry High School had the highest enrollment in the district with 473 students.

A snapshot of Sunflower County Consolidate School District schools showed 84.6% of students were Black, 0.5% were white, and 0.3% Hispanic.

Sunflower County Consolidate School District roughly covers 12 schools within Jefferson Davis County and has a main office in Bassfield.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly a decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
