Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Yazoo County schools in 2020-2021 school year

Of the 6,147 students enrolled in Yazoo County schools in 2020-2021, 87% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Yazoo County students.

This is a 1.3% increase over the previous school year.

McCoy Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2020-2021 school year.

A snapshot of Yazoo County schools showed 87% students were Black or African American, 8.5% were White, 1.2% were Two or More Races and 0.3% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are nine schools in Yazoo County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
