Black or African American had the largest percent of student body in Tallahatchie County schools in 2019-2020 school year

Of the 1,662 students enrolled in Tallahatchie County schools in 2019-2020, 89.9% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Tallahatchie County students.

This is a 4.8% increase over the previous school year.

R.H. Bearden Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Tallahatchie County schools showed 89.9% students were Black or African American and 7.3% were White.

There are five schools in Tallahatchie County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
