What background was most represented in Yazoo County schools in 2019-2020 school year?

Of the 6,794 students enrolled in Yazoo County schools in 2019-2020, 85.7% were Black or African American, according to the Mississippi Department of Education. This was the most represented ethnicity among Yazoo County students.

This is a 5.5% increase over the previous school year.

McCoy Elementary School had the highest enrollment of Black or African American students in the 2019-2020 school year.

A snapshot of Yazoo County schools showed 85.7% students were Black or African American, 10% were White, 1.3% were Two or More Races and 0.8% were Hispanic or Latino.

There are nine schools in Yazoo County.

Mississippi has continually struggled with public education. The most recent Report Card on American Education, from a right-leaning think tank, gave the state a C-. This is consistent with ratings stretching back nearly one decade.

The nonpartisan Education Week also ranked Mississippi schools as C- in their most recent analysis.
