Diamond Devils Dominates Tougaloo

The Mississippi Diamond Devils dominated Tougaloo Bulldogs in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. 

Game 1 | Box Score

Maury Weaver could not be denied at the plate, helping MVSU earn a victory over the Bulldogs, 15-5. 

Weaver drove in runs on a single in the first, a home run in the fifth, and a triple in the sixth.

The Diamond Devils scattered 16 hits in the game. Weaver, Narvin Booker, Victor Figueroa, Mims, and Holmes all collected multiple hits for Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils Varsity. Weaver went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead MVSU in hits. MVSU stole 12 bases during the game, as four players stole more than one. Booker led the way with three.

Zachery Sigmon pitched for MVSU and earned the victory. The righthander went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out four, and walking one. Seth Alexander threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Game 2 | Box Score 

The Diamond Devils dominated on the mound for a shutout victory, 7-0. 

MVSU pulled off the big victory without ever scoring many runs in an inning. MVSU fired up the offense in the first inning. Dreylin Holmes drove in two when Holmes homered.

Isaiah Valenzuela pitched the Diamond Devils to victory. The pitcher lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out four and walking zero. Whitfield threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.

"We came out and play Valley State baseball today," said head coach Milton Barney. "Our pitchers attacked the zone. We swung the bats well and we did what we do - run the bases. Overall today we did what we were supposed to do. When we play our style of baseball, we can compete with anyone."
