BPAC Presents Free Screening of Home From School

The Southern Circuit Tour of Independent Filmmakers connects documentary filmmakers and their impactful work with audiences throughout the South. The Bologna Performing Arts Center (BPAC) is proud to be one of 12 selected Southern communities and the only Mississippi Screening Partner for the 2023 Spring Southern Circuit Tour!

From February through April, the BPAC will present two films free of charge to the community. Along with a screening of the film, the filmmakers are made available to the local community for workshops and discussions. The filmmakers also conduct a Q&A with audiences immediately following the film screening to discuss the film, its subject, and their work.

Screenings begin February 13 with Home From School. Home From School: The Children of Carlisle dives into history of the flagship federal boarding school, Carlisle Indian Industrial School, and follows the modern-day journey of the Northern Arapaho Tribe as they seek to bring home the remains of three children who died at Carlisle over 100 years ago. To move forward they need to heal from the past, and in doing so they forge the way for other tribes to follow.

In Home From School a band of Northern Arapaho tribal elders and youth journeys from the Wind River Reservation to Pennsylvania in 2017 to retrieve the bodies of three children buried at the flagship off reservation federal boarding school for Native Americans called Carlisle Indian Industrial School. They battle the U.S. Army bureaucracy, white community indifference, and their own fears of a dark chapter in American history, in a triumphant quest to bring the boys home and heal historic wounds. Don’t miss the free screening Home From School February 13.

All films will be screened in the BPAC Recital Hall at 6:00 p.m. followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.bolognapac.com or contact the BPAC Ticket Office at 662-846-4626.

Southern Circuit screenings are funded in part by a grant from South Arts, a regional arts organization, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. For more information about Southern Circuit and South Arts please visit http://www.southarts.org/southerncircuit
