Today, the Mayor’s Office hosted the Kids Fire Academy and Loving Hands Daycare & Learning Center. Upon arrival, the kids were greeted by Mayor Errick D. Simmons, Councilwoman Lois Hawkins, and Councilwoman Lurann Thomas, who spoke to the students about their roles in the City of Greenville. Each child received a backpack with a picture of a car attached to the front. The color of the car determined the groups the children were placed in. Each group of children was assigned a “traffic director” and was led outside to learn more about their city!
The Mayor’s Office invited several businesses and organizations to set up tents outside of City Hall. Representatives of the businesses and organizations got the opportunity to teach the students about the role of their business or organization in the community. The children received a Travel Checklist to help them remember the businesses or organizations they visited. When the children visited a table, they received a star sticker.
The City of Greenville thanks Washington County Extension Office, the Mayor’s Health Council, Mars Food, Vector Disease Control International (VDCI), the Mayor’s Youth Council, Loveland Products, and FoodCorps Mississippi for taking the time to teach the kids about what the community has to offer!
The Mayor’s Office also thanks Chief Ruben Brown, the Greenville Fire Department, and Farenti Lambert for giving them the opportunity to expose the children to businesses and organizations that make a huge impact in the community!
