Mississippi Valley State University announces change in softball program leadership

Mississippi Valley State University Athletics announced on May 12 a change in leadership for the Delta Devils softball program.

The university said this move is part of a broader strategy to improve competitiveness and create more opportunities for student-athletes. Dr. Alecia Shields-Gadson, Director of Athletics, said, “We thank Coach Taliyah Riddick-Waters for her contributions to our softball program and wish her well in her future endeavors.” Shields-Gadson also said, “This realignment reflects a strategic vision that allows us to reset competitive expectations and create more opportunities for students to compete, thrive and elevate MVSU softball back to its competitive standards.”

Shields-Gadson added, “Mississippi Valley State University is deeply invested in the growth and competitiveness of all our athletic programs. We are unwavering in our goal to build a winning culture that prepares our student-athletes for success on the field and in life.”

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately, according to the announcement.

The university expressed appreciation for ongoing support from fans and encouraged them to follow Mississippi Valley State Athletics on social media platforms.
