The Mississippi Valley State University baseball team lost to Memphis on April 14, with a final score of 11-3 in a non-conference matchup held at FedExPark Avron Fogelman Field in Memphis, Tennessee.
This game adds to the ongoing series between the two teams, where Memphis now leads with an 11-1 record since 1978. The loss marks the eighth consecutive win for the Tigers over Mississippi Valley State, whose last victory against Memphis was on March 30, 2011.
Tom Early contributed two of Mississippi Valley’s three runs after reaching base with a single and a walk. Jace Jones and Chris Soeder both went two-for-four at the plate and each drove in one run. On the mound, Daniel Scott and Brock Lenhardt each pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout and no walks allowed. Kendall Brookins also scored after reaching base twice through a hit and a walk, while Jaxon Haynes delivered an RBI single.
Mississippi Valley State’s season record now stands at 11 wins and 22 losses overall (7-8 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play), while Memphis improves to 12-23 (4-8 American Athletic Conference). The teams’ history reflects continued dominance by Memphis over several decades.
Looking ahead, Mississippi Valley State will travel to Tallahassee for its only series outside of the central time zone this season as they face Florida A&M Rattlers. The first game is scheduled for Friday evening.
