Legacy Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation was among the second largest nursing homes in Washington County during the first quarter of 2026, sharing its status with River Heights Healthcare Center, Arbor Walk Healthcare Center, and Washington Care Center, according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

The home offered 60 available beds—six fewer than the county average for the period—and served about 52.7 residents on average through the quarter.

CMS awarded Legacy Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation an overall rating of 4 out of 5, higher than the average 2.7 rating for Mississippi nursing homes.

MS Care Center of Greenville held the rank of largest nursing home in the county, providing 90 available beds throughout the quarter.

Legacy Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation reported a total of $27,024 in fines from two violations and two penalties as of the first quarter of 2026.

Washington County, Mississippi, counted four for-profit nursing homes in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nationwide population of older adults continues to rise as younger demographics decrease. Americans age 65 and older grew by 13% from 2020 to 2024, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The nation’s older adult population has expanded significantly over the past century, up from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 study estimates that nearly half of the older population—roughly 28 million—could need long-term services and supports. The report also predicts that over a third of these individuals might ultimately require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
