Golden Age Nursing Home emerged as Leflore County’s second largest nursing home in the first quarter of 2026, data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) shows.
The facility maintained 95 available beds, matching the county’s average for that period, and cared for an average of 84.6 residents per day.
CMS rated Golden Age Nursing Home at 4 out of 5, a score notable for being above the 2.7 average across Mississippi nursing homes.
Within the same quarter, Crystal Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center was the county’s largest facility with 100 beds, while Riverview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center ranked third with 91 beds.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the older adult population grows as numbers of younger residents decline. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans age 65 and older increased by 13%, while the number under 18 decreased by 1.7%. The nation’s older population has expanded significantly, from 4.9 million in 1920 to above 61 million by 2024.
A study released in 2021 estimates nearly half of this age group—about 28 million—may need long-term services and support, with more than a third possibly requiring nursing home care in the future.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
