Delta Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center emerged as Bolivar County’s largest nursing facility in the first quarter of 2026, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) data shows.

The facility offered 75 beds—17 more than the county average during the same period—and cared for an average of 69.1 residents.

CMS assigned Delta Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center an overall rating of 2 out of 5, lower than the Mississippi nursing home average of 2.7.

In the first quarter, Diversicare of Shelby|Oak Grove Retirement Home ranked as the second largest nursing facility in Bolivar County, with 60 available beds.

Delta Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center reported no fines or penalties throughout the first quarter of 2026.

Altogether, Bolivar County, Mississippi had 4 for-profit nursing homes.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the nation is seeing continued growth of its older adult population as younger age groups decline. Between 2020 and 2024, the number of Americans ages 65 and older grew by 13%, while the under-18 population dipped by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the population of older adults in the U.S. has sharply risen, growing from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

Findings from a 2021 study reveal that about half of these older Americans—approximately 28 million people—could require long-term services and supports, and over a third may ultimately need nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an education advocacy group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
