Arbor Walk Healthcare Center ranked as the second largest nursing home in Washington County for the first quarter of 2026, tying with three other facilities, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported. Its ranking was shared with River Heights Healthcare Center, Legacy Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation, and Washington Care Center.

The facility offered 60 beds, which was six fewer than the county’s average as of the first quarter of 2026. On average, it cared for 54.6 residents during that time.

The CMS gave Arbor Walk Healthcare Center an overall rating of 1 out of 5, below the 2.7 average rating for Mississippi nursing homes.

MS Care Center of Greenville led the county during the quarter, operating 90 beds as the largest nursing home.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Arbor Walk Healthcare Center had incurred $8,165 in two fines and received two penalties.

There was one non-profit nursing home operating in Washington County, Mississippi, in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate that the nation’s older adult population is rising as the number of younger individuals declines. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans aged 65 and over increased by 13%, while those under 18 dropped by 1.7%. Over the past 100 years, the older adult population in the U.S. has grown significantly, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to more than 61 million by 2024.

According to a 2021 study, almost half of Americans in this age group—approximately 28 million—will need long-term services and support. The study also estimates that more than one-third could eventually require care in a nursing home.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, which is an insurance education group. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
